Retrograde for iPhone
Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 5, 2026
The short version. Retrograde doesn't collect personal information through the app. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and what you do in the app stays on your iPhone. Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple, which gives us sales reports, and if you email us we receive what you choose to send.
Who we are
Retrograde is operated by NKreative LLC (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the app and for the practices described in this policy.
Retrograde is distributed on the App Store through an individual Apple Developer account, so the App Store lists that account holder as the developer and seller. Purchases are made from Apple under Apple's terms.
If you have a question about this policy or your privacy, email support@nkreative.com.
What we collect
Nothing from the app. Retrograde has no servers of its own and no sign-in, and it doesn't send what you do in the app to us or to anyone else. The astronomical data it uses (planet positions, retrograde dates and Moon phases) is built into the app, so it works offline.
We only receive information about you in two situations outside the app's own features, described below: reports Apple provides about purchases, and information you choose to send us by email.
What stays on your iPhone
To work, Retrograde saves a few things on your iPhone. They aren't sent to us.
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Survival Kit progress | Which tasks you've marked done, in which retrograde cycle, and when. Earlier cycles are kept, so a new retrograde starts a fresh kit without losing your history. |
| Preferences | Which notifications you've chosen, whether you've finished the welcome screens and started the Survival Kit, and tips you've dismissed. |
| Notification history | The alerts Retrograde scheduled for you (their title, text and time), so the in-app Notification Center can list them. An alert is marked as delivered only if it arrived while Retrograde was open, you tapped it, or it was still in your iPhone's Notification Center when Retrograde checked; otherwise the app can't tell whether iOS showed it. It's marked as read when you tap it or open it in Retrograde. |
| Sharing history | Up to your last 200 finished shares: whether you shared the app or a day's card (and which day), and when. It doesn't record who received it, which app you used, or what you wrote. |
Journal prompts: when you copy a prompt or open it in another app, what you write stays in that app. Retrograde never sees or stores it.
Retrograde doesn't sync this information through iCloud or any other service. Like other app data, it can be included in backups of your iPhone that you make with iCloud or a computer, depending on your iPhone's settings.
Calendar and time
Retrograde uses your iPhone's time zone and calendar settings to show the right day and to time notifications. It doesn't use your location.
Notifications
Retrograde's alerts are local notifications: they're scheduled by your iPhone, on your iPhone, from the built-in sky data. No notification server is involved. iOS asks for your permission, and you can change it at any time in your iPhone's Settings › Notifications › Retrograde, or choose which alerts you get in Retrograde's own Settings.
Sharing
When you share Retrograde or a day's card, the iOS share sheet opens. What you send, and to whom, is between you and the app you choose (for example Messages or Mail). iOS only tells Retrograde whether a share was completed, so the app can list it in your sharing history. We never learn who received anything, and the app doesn't access your contacts.
Home Screen widget
The widget shows Mercury's countdown from the same built-in sky data. It doesn't store or send any information.
Purchases and subscriptions (handled by Apple)
Premium purchases and the Yearly subscription are processed by Apple through the App Store, using your Apple Account. Apple handles your payment details and purchase history under Apple's Privacy Policy. We don't receive your payment details.
To unlock Premium, the app checks the signed purchase information Apple keeps on your iPhone. This check happens on the device; it isn't sent to us. Restoring purchases asks Apple to re-sync them with your Apple Account.
Apple provides us with sales and subscription reports in App Store Connect. They don't include your payment details.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Retrograde contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code and no third-party libraries that collect data. It doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Separately, if you've turned on Share With App Developers in your iPhone's Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics about Retrograde with us, as Apple describes in that setting. You can turn it off there at any time.
Emails and web pages
If you email us, you choose what to send: we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use them to answer you. We keep support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to deal with your enquiry and to meet applicable legal obligations.
When you open this policy, the support page or the Terms of Use from inside the app, the page is loaded from the web. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages; GitHub may process technical information such as your IP address when you visit, as described in GitHub's Privacy Statement. Retrograde's Terms of Use are Apple's standard licence agreement, hosted by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. This website itself sets no cookies and uses no analytics or third-party fonts.
Keeping and deleting your information
- Information saved on your iPhone stays there until you remove it or delete the app.
- You can mark a task as not done in the Survival Kit, and turn notifications off in Retrograde's Settings or your iPhone's Settings.
- Deleting Retrograde from your iPhone deletes everything it saved there. Copies in iPhone backups made before then follow your backup settings.
- Your purchases stay with your Apple Account. After reinstalling, use Restore Purchases to unlock Premium again.
Children
Retrograde doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us at support@nkreative.com.
Changes to this policy
If Retrograde's handling of information changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
